From Recurrent Loss to Pregnant at 40 Without IVF: Meghann’s Story [EP 46]

I am so excited to share another very special client story. Meghann and her husband trusted me to help uncover the barriers behind their recurrent losses, even when they were repeatedly told it was “just her age” and IVF was the only option.

Today, Meghann is 26 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy at 41 years old—conceived naturally. I hope her story brings you hope and inspiration.

Introduction

I’m excited to share another special client story. Megan and her husband came to me after experiencing recurrent loss and hearing from their doctors that age and IVF were the only explanations and solutions. By trusting the process and digging deeper, they uncovered the root barriers affecting fertility and are now 26 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy at 41 years old—no IVF required.

Beginning the Journey

Megan describes starting her fertility journey at 38, when her doctors labeled her “post-maternal age.” After several months of trying, she was encouraged to fast-track to IUI. Her third round resulted in a pregnancy, but unfortunately ended in a loss at seven weeks. Almost immediately, her doctors shifted the conversation toward IVF, even though Megan wasn’t ready to pursue that path financially or emotionally.

She completed additional IUIs without success and eventually took a break to prioritize her mental health. During that time, a cousin recommended working with me, and Megan decided it was time to explore what might be happening beneath the surface.

The Impact of Age—and What Doctors Missed

Megan explains that every discussion with her providers came back to age, despite the fact that basic testing showed her hormones and uterus looked normal. She sensed other issues were being overlooked, especially as she continued to experience symptoms she didn’t fully understand. This uncertainty is what prompted her to pursue a deeper, root-cause approach.

Why She Chose a Functional Path

After our first conversation, Megan felt truly heard. She felt supported, and for the first time she sensed there may be underlying factors her doctors had not investigated. The idea of addressing her whole-body health—not just reproductive organs—resonated immediately.

Exploring functional testing provided clarity and direction she hadn’t received elsewhere.

What Testing Revealed

Comprehensive testing uncovered two primary concerns: significant gut imbalances and substantial mineral depletion. These findings explained many of the symptoms she had been experiencing, including disrupted sleep, digestive urgency, and difficulty regulating stress.

Understanding these barriers allowed us to design a personalized nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement plan that supported her fertility foundation from the inside out.

Early Symptom Shifts

Once Megan implemented her individualized plan, she saw rapid improvements. Her digestion normalized, sleep improved, and her energy stabilized. She also noticed encouraging reproductive signs—her cycles became regular, and cervical mucus patterns aligned more closely with healthy ovulation.

These shifts indicated that her body was absorbing nutrients more effectively and that her reproductive system was becoming better supported.

Building Sustainable Habits

Megan explains that the changes quickly became part of her daily rhythm. Small adjustments such as prioritizing protein, eating balanced meals, and no longer skipping breakfast helped her feel more grounded and nourished. These habits also positively influenced her husband’s routines, making fertility support a shared experience.

A New Pregnancy—and New Insight

After several months of working together, Megan conceived naturally—something she and her husband had deeply hoped for. Unfortunately, this pregnancy also ended in a loss, but this time we had more information. Early bloodwork showed that her thyroid was not responding adequately to early pregnancy needs.

With this insight, her doctor prescribed thyroid medication, a step that had never been offered in her previous pregnancies.

Continuing Forward

Despite the medication, Megan experienced another early loss. Each time, her healthcare team attributed it to age while overlooking additional factors like progesterone and optimal thyroid dosing. However, her body was recovering more quickly, cycling predictably, and demonstrating resilience—all positive signs that her internal environment was improving.

She and her husband remained committed to finding the missing pieces.

The Missing Piece: Progesterone

After her third loss, we developed a clear plan for her next conception attempt: immediate early-pregnancy lab work, including progesterone. When she conceived again soon after, she requested the appropriate tests and was placed on progesterone right away.

This was the turning point.

A Healthy Pregnancy

Megan is now 26 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy. Her pregnancy has been smooth, her energy strong, and her confidence renewed. At 41, she is experiencing a deeply healthy pregnancy—one that reflects the foundational work she committed to throughout her journey.

Reflections on Support and Advocacy

Megan shares how vital it was to have someone help her ask the right questions and advocate for the testing she needed. She emphasizes that her doctors were supportive, but their lens was limited. Understanding how interconnected the body is—from minerals to digestion to hormones—changed everything.

She also speaks to the emotional aspect: having hope reinforced, receiving reassurance during setbacks, and truly feeling supported.

Advice for Others Experiencing Loss

Megan encourages other women and couples to remember they are not alone, even though loss can feel isolating. She stresses the importance of advocating for your health, seeking deeper answers, and not letting age be the only narrative you hear.

She also reminds listeners that fertility can improve with nourishment, lifestyle changes, and a tailored approach—even in your 40s.

Acknowledging Male Fertility

Megan notes that her husband made meaningful lifestyle shifts as well, illustrating the critical point that fertility takes two. Male-factor support is often overlooked, but it can make a substantial difference.

Encouragement for Those Considering a Functional Approach

Megan’s message for those uncertain about exploring nutrition and lifestyle as part of fertility care is simple: do it. The changes are sustainable, cost-effective compared to intervention-only approaches, and supportive of long-term health—not just pregnancy.

She shares that she wishes she had taken this route before pursuing IUIs, as the benefits have extended far beyond conception.
